Friday’s boys’ HS highlights: EA topples St. Joe’s Prep; PC wins 8th in row

Curtis Zappala scored six goals and assisted on another while Kevin Gayhardt led a stifling defense and Colin Reder made nine saves as host Episcopal Academy toppled St. Joseph’s Prep, 12-5, today in non-league boys’ lacrosse.

Episcopal also got two goals, an assist and eight groundballs from midfielder Ian Strain and two goals each from Peter Gayhardt and Trupert Ortlieb. Dutch Buckley added three assists as the Churchmen improved to 4-3 with their third straight win.

The Prep, which got three goals from Pat Walsh and two from Chase Young, fell to 2-3 with its third straight loss. The defeat also spoiled the homecoming for EA coach Eric Gregg, an Episcopal grad.

Penn Charter 8, St. Augustine Prep 5

Ray Vandegrift had three goals, Drew Murray had two goals and two assists and Sean McKee made 12 saves and as the Quakers (8-3) won their eighth in a row. The Quakers play their Inter-Ac Legaue opener Monday at Haverford School in a game moved up from Tuesday.

Joseph Eisele had two goals and an assist and Ernie Alvino had 11 saves for the Hermits (0-2).

Springside Chestnut Hill 10, Shipley School 3

The Blue Devils (7-0) remained undefeated as Tasso Karras had five goals and an assist and Clint Sanders had three goals and an assist.
