Ben Cellini scored three goals and Marc Poust made 18 saves as Hatboro-Horsham clinched at least a tie for the Suburban One Continental Conference boys’ lacrosse championship today by defeating host Central Bucks East, 11-10.

The Hatters (11-3 overall) are 10-0 in the league with two games left, having beaten CB East (12-3, 8-2) twice.

Ryan Higgins (2 goals, 1 assist), Zach Erwine (2 goals), Jimmy Murphy (1 goals, 2 assists), and Jimmy Durkin (1 goal, 2 assists) also led the Hatters’ offensively. Connor Kreston and Matt McPoyle each had one goal apiece.

Matt Heim had two goals and an assist and Matt Milici and Matt Schmidt each had two goals for CB East.

“The kids played their tails off,” Hatboro-Horsham coach John Kurek said. “We went in with a game plan, but the kids are really something special this year.

“They really play hard, they really play for each other. My hats are definitely off to them.”

Connor Kreston and Jake Cresta led Hatboro-Horsham with five ground balls each. Poust was outstanding in goal, along with defensive help from Jake Cresta, Matt McPoyle, TJ Keleher, and Keith Cameron.

“Marc’s one of those kids – he’s got talent,” Kurek said. “He started in this program since he was a freshman. Now it’s his junior year, and you’re starting to see a kid who is a good player turn into a leader.

“What he does out there – he tells the defense what to do, he knows the calls, he knows what the other team has. He takes the scouting report very seriously, so he’s always ready to take command out there.”

The Hatters look to clinch the league title Friday night as they host visiting North Penn HS (7 pm).
