Matt Ernst won 15 of 15 face-offs and Trupert Ortlieb scored three goals as host Episcopal Academy defeated Penn Charter, 7-4, today to take over sole possession of first place in the Inter-Ac League.
EA won its eighth straight game and improved to 9-3 overall, 4-0 in the Inter-Ac, one game ahead of Haverford School and Malvern Prep – which defeated Haverford, 13-7. The Churchmen play Tuesday at Haverford School.
Ian Strain added two goals and Curtis Zappala had a goal and two assists for EA, while Colin Reder made six saves in goal. Benjamin Valdes also scored while Dutch Buckley dished two assists.
Penn Charter (9-7, 1-3) got a goal and two assists each from Drew Murray and Kevin Murphy. Sean McKee made 17 saves.
