Head coach Meredith Black and Marquette University have announced the addition of 17 student-athletes for the inaugural 2013 season.

“We are thrilled to have a talented group of 17 ladies joining our team next year from all over the country,” Marquette head coach Meredith Black said. “Our coaching staff focused on getting a group of girls who are committed to putting in the work it takes to grow this program from the ground up.”

The Golden Eagles add student-athletes from 10 different states, including multiple players from Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York and New Jersey.

Marquette also adds two pair of high school teammates in Loyola (Ill.) Academy’s Meredith Abrahamson and Molly O’Brien, as well as Conestoga (Pa.) High School’s Jacqueline Borzillo and Sarah Priem.

Abrahamson is the lone member of the class to rank in the Girls’ ESPNHS 100 for the class of 2012 and was recently selected as one of 44 athletes to play in the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Girls Classic on Saturday, June 30. Priem is listed by ESPNHS as one of the top 25 goalies in the senior class.

“All 17 players have something unique that is going to help make Marquette women’s lacrosse successful,” Black said. “They are all wonderful people who will elevate this program to the NCAA Division I level with pride and class. This group has speed, athleticism, work ethic, intelligence and spirit. I have high expectations for this group of girls; I know they are up for the challenge.”

Marquette will begin play in the spring of 2013 as an independent before joining the ultra-competitive Big East Conference for the 2014 season.
