Owen J. Roberts graduate Mercedes Rolon (defender) has transferred to Division II Shippensburg from Alvernia to continue her lacrosse and academic career.

Mercedes Rolon log:

Mercedes Rolon

High School: Owen J. Roberts

Graduation Year: 2011

Position: low defense

College Choice: Shippensburg University

Club Affiliation: Aftershock Lacrosse

Major lacrosse honors: Philly Showcase Fab 40 All-Star Team and US Lacrosse National Tournament All- Star Team

What will you major in/study? Criminal Justice

Why did you choose to transfer to Shippensburg? “I was looking for a more challenging educational and athletic experience. I wanted a bigger campus that was further away from home.

“I also wanted more lacrosse opportunities through-out the year. I have been playing year round lacrosse since the 6th grade and want to continue doing so in college. Moving from a DIII to a DII school will allow more playing opportunities during the school year.”

Additional Comments: “I want to thank my Mother who has pushed me to become the person I am today. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have this opportunity. She put a lot of time and money in lacrosse for me and I am grateful.

“I also want to thank Pottstown High School Varsity Coach Andy Bachman for taking the time to train me and develop my defense skills. Also, my coach Ashley Manion for inviting me to try out for the Lady Raiders and giving me the opportunity to be a part of her team. All the players have been welcoming to me and I am looking forward to reuniting on the field with my former Aftershock teammates Amanda Krok and Allison Frymoyer.”
