From Press Release
Philadelphia Wings goal tender Brandon Miller was named Defensive Player of the Week for week three, while transition player Brodie Merrill took home the weekly Transition Player of the Week honor, the National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced today.
Miller played a vital role in the Wings 10-9 overtime victory over the Washington Stealth last Saturday night, tallying 49 saves on the 58 shots against him, for an exceptional .844 save percentage. Perhaps even more impressive, Miller stepped up on the power play and shut out the stealth on six of their eight chances.
In the extra period, Miller was a brick wall between the pipes, shutting down a few Stealth breakaways and holding Washington scoreless for five minutes until rookie Kevin Crowley broke the tie with the game-winning goal.
Merrill was a vacuum cleaner for the Wings Saturday night, policing the open field and recovering 14 loose balls in addition to forcing two turnovers. Merrill is currently tied for second in the league with 21 loose balls recovered.
After a road game versus the Buffalo Bandits on Friday, January 27, the Wings will return home to Wells Fargo Center to play 2011 NLL Champion Toronto Rock on Saturday, February 4 at 7 p.m.
Tickets to all Wings home games can be purchased at WingsLAX.com or by phone at 215-389-WING.
