The Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse team used a 12-goal first half to hold off Manhattan, 14-12, on Wednesday afternoon at Finnesey Field. Grace Dinn netted five goals to lead the Hawks to their fourth victory.
Carly Kindbom, Grace Dinn and Michele Granger each scored a goal apiece in the first seven minutes to grab an early lead as SJU gathered momentum. After a free position goal by Manhattan, Dinn scored her second of the day to make the score 4-1.
The Jaspers would add another goal before the Hawks used two goals apiece by Val Paolucci (Springfield-Delco) and Meghan McDevitt and another from Gwen Nihill to string together a 5-0 run. Both squads would trade three goals to end the half 12-5, in favor of SJU.
McDevitt opened the second half with a goal at 29:11 while Dinn added her fifth of the day to make the score 14-5. In the final 18 minutes of play, Manhattan went on a seven-goal run to threaten the Hawks. Saint Joseph’s would prevail by controlling the ball for the final 2 minutes.
Alisha Aquilino (Abington) made 10 saves in net for Hawks with six coming in the second half.
Lehigh 17, Binghamton 10
Freshman Carli Sukonik (Harriton) poured in a career-high eight goals and senior Kelly Draper had three goals and three assists while senior Lauren Murray added three goals and two assists. Sukonik’s goals tied her season total and were the highest goal output by a Mountain Hawk since Lauren Dykstra had eight on March 21, 2009 vs. American.
The Mountain Hawks’ 17 goals were a season high and the most scored since March 27 of last season when Lehigh tallied 18 in a win at Lafayette.
Lafayette 14, Davidson 8
The Leopards (5=3) received goals from nine different players, including Jessica Rothstein (Harriton), who scored a game-high three times.
Drexel 18, Longwood 8
Senior captain Charlotte Wood (Conestoga) led the team with five goals and set a season-high with three assists for eight points to lead the Dragons’ win. Redshirt freshman Alissa Watts tallied a season-best three goals and Kelli Joran (Downingtown East) added eight draw control wins.
Georgetown 18, Villanova 6
Kelyn Freedman (Radnor) had three goals and three three groundballs and Kelly Barnes (Radnor) added three groundballs and two caused turnovers as the Hoyas claimed the Big East win.
Elise Bendinelli (Villa Maria Academy) and Maria Bowman each scored twice for the Wildcats.
Loyola 14, Delaware 5
Chelsea Fay (Villa Maria Academy) and Abbie Hartman (North Penn) each scored twice, but it was not enough as the Blue Hens dropped a decision to No. 13 Loyola.
