US Lacrosse today named the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass., the site of the 2013 US Lacrosse Northeast Championships, a three-day youth lacrosse tournament for boys’ and girls’ teams in the U11, U13 and U15 age divisions. Event dates will be June 21-23, 2013, and teams may register online at uslacrosse.org beginning on or about Sept. 10, 2012.

“US Lacrosse is proud to continue a long history of successful youth events at UMass,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “It’s a terrific venue in a scenic college town. Combine that with the fact that the US Lacrosse membership includes more than 137,000 players under age 15 north of the Mason-Dixon Line, and Amherst is a great, accessible choice for the 2013 US Lacrosse Northeast Championships.”

The University of Massachusetts features 22 fields, including one with turf and lights, permanent concession stands and parking for more than 1,000 cars. The university is less than an hour from Bradley International Airport and 90 minutes from Boston, and it’s a short drive from Interstates 90 and 91. The UMass Hotel is conveniently located directly on the campus. The 2013 US Lacrosse Northeast Championships will mark the sixth US Lacrosse youth event held at UMass (2001-02, 2005-07).

“The UMass Hotel and Conference Center is extremely excited to be hosting the US Lacrosse youth event and their families again next year,” said Jennylyn Fontaine, director of sales and marketing for auxiliary enterprises at UMass. “This is such a great event, and we are honored to have been chosen as the location for the sixth year. Our award winning staff is looking forward to it.”

Team registration fees for the event remain unchanged from the 2012 US Lacrosse Regional Championships: $1,000 for a U11 team, $1,250 for a U13 team, and $1,350 for a U15 team. Up to 24 players and four coaches/chaperones may comprise each team, resulting in per-player tournament-only costs ranging from $42-$56, depending on the age level. In the U15 division, the top four teams in Amherst will earn automatic invitations with free or reduced registration to the July 2013 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

The 2013 US Lacrosse Northeast Championships will represent part of the organization’s 16th annual series of youth events. US Lacrosse youth tournaments allow the organization’s national membership to compete with class, honor the game, and build relationships with teammates and opponents alike.
