Saturday’s women’s roundup: Penn tops Drexel behind Poplawski (Springfield-Delco); Fay (V. Maria Academy) leads Hens

Maddie Poplawski (Springfield-Delco) scored four goals as Penn defeated host Drexel, 18-8, today in women’s lacrosse action.

Penn, in its opener, also got three goals and three assists from Erin Brennan and three goals and two assists from Courtney Tomchik.

Drexel (2-1) got three goals from Alyse Maiden.

Delaware 11, Lehigh 7

Chelsea Fay (Villa Maria Academy) scored four goals while Caitlin McCartney (Archbishop Wood) and Abbie Hartman (North Penn) each scored twice to lead the host Blue Hens (2-1) to the win.

Julie McBrien had three goals and an assist for the Mountain Hawks (1-1) while Leigh Ann Torcivia had a goal and an assist and Carly Sukonik (Harriton) scored once.

St. Joseph’s 14, Wagner 7

Grace Dinn poured in six goals to lead the Hawks.

Temple 12, Mt. Saint Mary’s 3

Steph Parcell (Interboro) had four goals and Charlotte Svavola (Cheltenham) added three as the owls improved to 3-0.

Princeton 16, Villanova 3

Jaci Gassaway had five goals and two assists and Sam Ellis (Radnor) scored twice to pace the Tigers in their opener. Jackie Froccaro posted three goals for Villanova.

La Salle 10, Iona 7

Claire Andrews led the Explorers to the win with five goals.

Penn State 14, Lafayette 10

Lizzy Carney (Unionville) contributed two goals for the Lions while Ana White (Strath Haven) had three goals for Lafayette.

Duke 10, Maryland 9

Taylor Trimble (Episcopal Academy) had two key goals to spark a 5-0 run that carried the No. 5 Blue Devils past the No. 2 Terps in an ACC game. Emma Hamm (Baldwin School) and Kim Wenger (Great Valley) also scored once each for Duke.

Navy 16, Davidson 5

Kathy Young (Villa Maria Academy) had three goals and an an assist and Beth Young (Villa Maria Academy) scored twice while Aimee Gennaro (Archbishop Carroll) scored once to pace the Mids to the easy win.
