Saturday’s high school wrap: Episcopal Academy, Penn Charter boys earn key out-of-state wins; Garnet Valley tops Manheim

Visiting Episcopal Academy broke open a tight game with a 4-0 spurt in the third period and toppled previously-undefeated St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes (VA) 8-4 Saturday to improve its record to 4-0.

The Churchmen have now defeated Bullis and McDonogh of Maryland and a Saints team that was 5-0 and coming off a 7-5 win over nationally-ranked Boys’ Latin (Md.).

Morgan Westby and Tyler Odell each had two goals to lead the balanced Churchmen while Dutch Buckley, Jon Garino and Curtis Zappala each had a goal and an assist and Ian Strain scored once.

Henry Coote (five saves) and Tyler Morrell (three saves) shared the duties in goal.

Garnet Valley 8, Manheim Township 6

Jules Raucci scored four goals and Vail Urso added a hat trick while Zach Penfil won 12 of 17 face-offs to lead the Jaguars (2-0) to the win over visiting Manheim Township.

Penn Charter 9, St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va) 5

Shane Carr had three goals and an assist and James Vandegrift scored twice while Jackson Tamasitas made 13 saves to lead the Quakers to their first win after three tight losses to out-of-state powers.

Downingtown West 15, Wissahickon 2

Dylan Ikkala poured in four goals as the Whippets improved to 2-0 with the non-league win.

Upper Dublin 7, Avon Grove 3

Drew Potts and Ben Winebrake each scored twice and Jack Deragon made 13 saves to help the Cards open with the non-league win.

Will Schriener was a standout in goal for Avon Grove with 18 saves and Tanner Peck scored twice.

Shipley 13, Sarasota Military Academy (Fl) 3

The Gators improved to 2-1 with the win during their Florida trip.

Mac Gallagher led the way with three goals and five assists and Mike Litner added three goals and two assists while Mattock Callahan had three goals and one assist.

Central Bucks East 10, Allentown 8

Chris Vetter had three goals and two assists while Chris Schneeklof won 16 of 20 face-offs and scored once to lead the Patriots in their opener.

Steve Mussoline had three goals and an assist for Allentown Central Catholic.

Lawrenceville School 15, Mercersburg Academy 1

M.J. Flood scored four goals and Josh Stauffer and Nick Giacco added two each to lead the visiting Big Red in their season opener

Matt Minno added a goal and an assist for Lawrenceville, which led 10-0 in the first half.

Bullis School (MD) 7, Germantown Academy 5

The Patriots dropped their season opener in the LacrossePlayground.com Spring Classic at Navy. Billy Oppenheimer had two goals and Jake Adoni made 14 saves.

Girls

Mount St. Joseph 21, Sacred Heart 2

Burke Brabson collected six goals, three assists and four groundballs and Olivia Gannon had six goals and two assists while Emily Ehret paced the defense with six draw controls, five groundballs and four caused turnovers to go with two goals and an assist as the Mount opened with an easy Catholic Academies win.

Harriton 17 Methacton 1

Caleigh Foust erupted for seven goals and two draw controls to lead the Rams (2-0) to the win non-league win.
