Saturday’s high school boys’ highlights: Penn Charter tops Abington, Garnet Valley, Pennsbury, Ridley win

Nick Bambino, Tyler Earley and Kevin Murphy each scored two goals to lead host Penn Charter to a 9-7 victory over Abington Saturday in non-league boys’ lacrosse.

Jackson Tamasitis added 11 saves for the Quakers (9-10). Ryan Ambler had two goals and an assist and Travis O’Connor made 17 saves for the Ghosts (11-5).

Garnet Valley 5, Bishop Shanahan 4

Robert Raucci scored three goals to lead the Jaguars to the non-league win.

Joe McErlean scored twice for Shanahan and Anthony Wagner had 16 saves.

Pennsbury 11, Holy Ghost Prep 9

Calvin Hopkins had four goals and an assist and Colin Sullivan added two goals and three assists while Drew Sweetland made 17 saves to pace the Falcons (15-1) to a close non-league win.
Pennsbury trailed, 8-7, before scoring four straight goals in the third and fourth periods to seize control.

Jeremy Omrod had four goals and an assist and Greg Price made 11 saves for the Firebirds.

Ridley 11, Great Valley 6

Kevin Benson posted a hat trick to pace the Green Raiders (14-3). Six different players scored for Great Valley.

Lawrenceville School 12, St. Augustine Prep 7

Brendan Newman had five goals to lead the Big Red to the non-league win in a battle of New Jersey prep powers.

Steve Pontrello had two goals and an assist for the Hermits.

Harriton 10, Phoenixville 4

Harriton rebounded from two tough Central League losses last week to claim the non-league win.

The Rams broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, and were ahead 8-1 at the end of three quarters. Zach Fink led the Rams with three goals and one assist. Harry Pillion and David Stewart added two goals each.

With the win, the Rams are now 6-9 for the season, and have exceed their combined number of wins in 2010 and 2011.
