Mount St. Joseph and Archbishop Carroll opened play this morning with tough losses to top-ranked teams in the prestigious AmLax Challenge in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Meanwhile, Conestoga toppled Bishop Moore (Fla.), 14-5. The Pioneers also fell to St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) 11-6, later in the day.
The Mount (2-1) fell to Georgia power Milton (8-0), 13-9, despite four goals by Natalie Bohner. The Magic next play undefeated Holy Child (Md.) tomorrow.
Olivia Gannon had two goals and Laura Pacheco and Emily Ehret led the Mount’s midfield with 5 groundballs and 5 draw controls each.
USC-bound Annie Ruland led Milton in scoring seven goals and Northwestern-bound Lydia Cassada had four goals.
“The experience you gain from competing in these games raises the level of play quickly,” said Mount coach Jen Duckenfield. “Every team at AMLAX is strong.”
Carroll (1-1) fell to Florida power Vero Beach (10-1), 11-8. Carroll also plays Milton on Monday.
In Friday’s game, Vero Beach edged St. Stephens & St. Agnes, 12-11, after SSSA junior standout Carly Reed was removed for being assessed two yellow cards.
