Saturday’s girls’ HS highlights: Moorestown coach Knobloch earns 400th career win, 8-3, over Strath Haven

Moorestown girls’ lacrosse coach Deanna Knobloch earned her 400th career win Saturday when the host Quakers defeated a stubborn Strath Haven squad, 8-3, to open their season.

Marie McCool scored four goals and Stephanie Toy added a pair for Moorestown, which won the New Jersey Tournament of Champions titles from 2000-09 and was the runner-up last year to Ridgewood.

Strath Haven (1-3), which has lost to Central league powers Harriton and Garnet Valley, gave the Quakers all they could handle. Lexi Mazur, Sara Labrum and Katie Tillman each scored once and Hallie Yancey made 17 saves.

Kelly Molloy (3 DC, 2 CT, 3GB), Laura Rowan (5 GB), Jess Borbee (4 CT, 3 GB) and Lilly Kovach (4 GB) stood out for the Panthers.

Ridley 16, Abington 15

Arden Johnson (five goals) tied the game with a free position and then Annemarie Cericola (three goals, one assist) won it with 1:12 to play to lift the Green Raiders.

Liz Brennan added four goals for Ridley.

Meredith Cox led Abington with four goals and Jeannie Van Buren added four.

Unionville 17, W.T. Woodson (Va.) 17

Unionville

Kelly Close had seven goals and an assist and Kris Abens scored four goals to pace the Indians in the tie.

Baldwin School 16, Westtown 3

Arden Simone had five goals, one assist, four groundballs and three caused turnovers while Ali Thaler collected five goals, three groundballs and four draw controls in the non-league win.

Katherine Chick had 13 saves for Westtown.

Manheim Township 12, Severn (MD) 9

Molly Hendrick had six goals and an assist and Devon Schneider scored four goals to lead the Blue Streaks (3-0) to the win.
