Conestoga’s Brian Samson and Mount St. Joseph’s Jenifer Duckenfield have been named coaches for the Philly teams that will compete in the annual Under Armour Underclassmen Games this summer at Towson University.
Samson will be assisted by Pat McDonough (Penn Charter), Tom Lemieux (Springfield-Delco) and Mike Friel (former coach at Springfield-Delco, former head coach of UA team). Samson guided Conestoga to PIAA state championship in 2010-11 and also led his team to the state finals in 2009.
The Philly boys’ tryouts will be held June 13-14 at a site and time to be determined. The 10-team tournament will be held June 29-July 1. In addition to the Philly teams, squads will come from Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, South, Upstate NY and Washington, D.C. and West.
Duckenfield, who served as an assistant the past two years, will be assisted by George Dick (Harriton) and Caitlin Barbakoff (former head coach at Downingtown East and former UA head coach). Duckenfield led Strath Haven to the state playoffs in 2010.
The Philly girls’ tryouts will be held on June 8 from 5-8 p.m. at Harriton High.
