September 30, 2012 by Chris Goldberg

J.R. Bucktooth scored 30 seconds into overtime on a breakaway to lift the Jacksonville Bullies to a thrilling 11-10 victory over the host Reading Rockets Saturday night at the Sovereign Center in the Rockets’ Professional Lacrosse League debut.

Reading is coached by former Barrage and wings assistant and current Downingtown West coach Tom Slate.

The Rockets led, 10-8, heading into the final quarter, but Jacksonville (2-0-1) scored three unanswered goals and held Reading scoreless for the final 24:51.

Travis Bland led Reading with four goals and had the first goal in franchise history 1:35 into the game.

Reading had a strong transition game for much of the game until the final quarter. The Rockets took a 5-2 first-quarter lead as Bland scored three times and Dan Deckelbaum (Univ of Delaware grad, coach for NXT, assistant at Avon Grove) and Jake Davis (three goals) each added one.

Wade Bucktooth and Andrew Kirkaldy led the Bullies with three goals apiece.

Rockets starting goaltender Scotty Komer left the game with a concussion in the first half and was replaced by Findley Wilson.

It is unknown whether Komer will play in the Rockets next game at the Charlotte Copperheads Oct. 12.
