The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association has honored 48 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on the All-America teams for 2012. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 16, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King Prussia, Pa.
The First Team featured two Philly women, Loyola senior defender Kellye Gallagher (Ridley) and Syracuse junior attack Michelle Tumolo.
Gallagher – the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors – is earning her first All-America honor by the IWLCA, and her second of the season. A two-time all-region honoree, including a first-team selection this year, Gallager was named the WomensLax.com Defender of the Year and was also named to the organizations All-America team earlier this week.
A two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and an all-tournament team selection this season, Gallagher led the league in both caused turnovers and ground balls per game, while she also ranked second nationally with 2.70 caused turnovers per game and fifth with 3.25 ground balls per game.
Gallagher also broke Loyola’s single-season record for caused turnovers, racking up 54 this year, and ranks second in the program’s career records with 125.
Tumolo leds the Orange in assists (43) and ranked second in points (95) and goals (52) while helping the team reach the NCAA championship game. The Tewaaraton Trophy finalist ranks 11th in the nation in total assists and 22nd in assists per game. Tumolo earned the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year award and was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Earlier this season, she became the second player in school history to record 200 points and 100 assists in her career.
