US Lacrosse announced the full schedule for the 2012 US Lacrosse Stars & Stripes event, featuring the U.S. women’s national team, to be held Oct. 3-7 in Palo Alto, Calif., on the campus of Stanford University and nearby Burlingame High School (Burlingame, Calif.).

This marks the first time the event, now in its seventh year, has been held in the state of California.

The defending Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup champion U.S. women’s national team will face 2009 silver medalist Team Australia in the featured weekend game, to take place Sunday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. PT. Team USA also will take on Team Canada as well as local collegiate programs Cal and Stanford. Other teams in action include Team England and Rikkyo University (Japan).

Cal features freshmen Nicole Beck (attack, All-Phillylacrosse.com High Honorable mention pick from Hatboro-Horsham) and Michele DeVincent (defender, Upper Dublin). Stanford features sophomore defender Rachel Kalick (Great Valley) and coach Amy Bokker (Phoenixville), also an assistant for Team USA.

In total, 18 games will be played throughout the five-day event.

The full schedule of Team USA games is as follows:

Saturday, Oct. 6
Games to be played at Burlingame High School

12 p.m. – USA vs. Australia
4 p.m. – USA vs. Cal
6 p.m. – USA vs. Canada

Sunday, Oct. 7
Games to be played at Stanford University’s Cagan Stadium

10 a.m. – USA vs. Australia
12 p.m. – USA vs. Stanford

The U.S. women’s national team will square off against Australia in the first matchup between the world’s top two teams since 2009, when Team USA defeated Australia 8-7 to capture the World Cup. The final U.S. women’s national team roster for the 2013 FIL World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario will be announced in February 2013.

The U.S. women’s national team brings a number of California ties to the event. Assistant coach Bokker and midfielder Lauren Schwarzmann (Sykesville, Md./Johns Hopkins ’08) are the head and assistant coaches at Stanford, while attacker Lindsey Munday (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Northwestern ’06) and goalie Devon Wills (Denver, Colo./Dartmouth ’06) are the head and assistant coaches at USC.

Team USA also features defenders Regina Oliver (Pottstown) and Kelly Barnes (Radnor), attack Michelle Tumolo (Clearview Regional) and Hollie McGarvie (Princeton) and midfielder Kristen Carr (Delaware assistant coach). Another assistant is Boston University coach Liz Robertshaw (Strath Haven).

In addition to competing in three days of games, the U.S. National Teams Program will host “An Evening with Team USA” on Friday, Oct. 5 from 6:30-9 p.m. at La Honda Winery in Redwood City, Calif. This dinner is a unique opportunity for local parents and daughters to get one-on-one access to Team USA players.
