From Press Release
NXTsports has announced the launch of the Can-Am Showcase. The inaugural version of the Can-Am Showcase will take place the weekend of November 10-11, 2012 at Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) in Beverly Hills, Michigan.
The 2012 Can-Am Showcase will be overseen and directed by Byron Collins, Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at DCDS.
The inaugural Can-Am Showcase will begin with an individual competition on Saturday, November 10, which will feature elite high school boys’ lacrosse players in the graduating classes of 2013, 2014 and 2015. The name of the event – The Can-Am Showcase – reflects the fact that the event will include elite players from both the United States and from across Canada, particularly the lacrosse hotbed of Southern Ontario.
All the players will be divided onto teams, each coached by a prominent high school coach, and will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of the college coaches in attendance. The Saturday competition will be capped by a series of afternoon Fab-Forty all-star games. Players selected by the all-star evaluators will compete in all-star games that will take place inside Detroit Country Day School’s full-field indoor fieldhouse. All games at the Can-Am Showcase will be filmed in HD, and complete video packages along with indexed video clips will be available to all participating athletes.
The Can-Am Showcase will continue with an elite team competition on Sunday, November 11, at which top club teams from the United States and throughout Canada will be in competition in front of the attending college coaches.
The Can-Am Showcase event model is based on NXTsports’ highly regarded Philly Boys Showcase, which has emerged as the top showcase event of the November evaluation period. The 2011 Philly Boys Showcase featured 550 players from 29 states and provinces in competition at Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, PA, and was attended by over 150 college coaches, including 58 of the 62 NCAA Division I programs.
Said Andy Hayes, President of NXT Sports, “We have worked hard for a long time to make the Can-Am Showcase a reality, and are very excited to partner with Detroit Country Day School and Coach Collins. The sport of lacrosse has grown far beyond the traditional East Coast markets, and we feel that DCDS, aside from being an amazing venue, is in the perfect location to attract top talent from around the U.S. and from across Canada.”
The Can-Am Showcase will be held at Detroit Country Day School’s state-of-the-art athletic complex located at the Upper School campus at the corner of Lahser and West 13 Mile Road in Beverly Hills, MI. As the host school, DCDS reflects NXTsports’ commitment to holding events solely at elite venues. The Showcase will take place at DCDS’ outdoor stadium and inside DCDS’ full-field indoor fieldhouse, both of which are equipped with state-of-the-art field turf. The event will also incorporate additional athletic fields at DCDS, all located within walking distance for ease of players and spectators.
“Detroit Country Day School is proud to host the inaugural NXTsports Can-Am Showcase in our state-of-the-art facilities,” said Glen Shilling, headmaster for Detroit Country Day School. “As one of the original schools to bring lacrosse to Michigan, we have had a long tradition of promoting competitive lacrosse. We are eager to welcome participants, fans and coaches to this exciting event in the fall.”
