St. Joseph’s Prep senior defenseman Matthew Smith has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Marquette University.
High School: St. Joseph’s Prep
Graduation Year: 2012
Position: Defenseman
College Choice: Marquette
Service Projects: Volunteer on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota
What will you major in/study? Business
Why did you choose Marquette? “When I visited Marquette, the campus and city of Milwaukee had a very comfortable and appealing atmosphere. It reminded me of my high school, in that it is Jesuit and there are many opportunities to succeed on and off the field. The coaching staff and facilities are great too.”
What is your HS team’s outlook for the season? “Coach (Eric) Gregg always emphasizes that our goal is to win the PIAA Championship. In order to do this we must first focus on winning the Catholic League. Last year’s seniors taught us what it takes and we’re all ready to get back on the field.”
Additional Comments: “Coach Gregg has been extremely helpful with the entire college process and I am very thankful for that. I’m also very fortunate to have a supportive family in my Mom, Dad and brother Fran.”
