Men’s college honors: Duke sophomore Wolf (Lower Merion), Villanova’s Rice take awards

Duke sophomore Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Monday, Feb. 27.

Wolf led all Duke scorers with eight goals and two assists in a 2-0 weekend for the No. 10 Blue Devils. Wolf netted his first hat trick of the season as Duke beat No. 17 Penn, 12-8, and grabbed four ground balls against the Quakers.

Two days later against Jacksonville, the native of Wynnewood, Pa., added a career-high five goals and two assists for seven points, tying a career-best performance. His five goals are the most by an ACC player this season, and he leads the league with nine goals and 14 points.

‘Nova’s Rice takes Big East award

Villanova junior Jack Rice has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Wildcats senior goalkeeper Dan Gutierrez (Chevy Chase, Md.) has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Rice earns Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Wildcats with a career-high six goals in a 13-12 overtime win against Bucknell. The junior attackman and currently leads the team with eight goals through Villanova’s two games. The honor is the first Player of the Week accolade for Rice after being named to the Honor Roll five times prior during his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Gutierrez led the defensive effort in the 13-12 victory, making a career-high 15 saves. For the season, Gutierrez posts a 9.46 goals against average and a .587 save percentage while facing 68 shots through two games. The Honor Roll laurels mark the second straight conference accolades for Gutierrez this season.
