Maple Zone boys’ recruit: Malvern Prep sophomore MF-FO specialist Kelly commits to North Carolina

Malvern Prep sophomore midfielder/face-off specialist Charles Kelly has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of North Carolina.

Major lacrosse honors: Malvern Prep varsity as freshman, Dukes’ 1 as freshman, Captain Dukes L.C. (2015), 2012 championships at Tri-State seniors AA, Champ Camp and Crabfeast with Dukes; Rider MVP Tourney champs with Mesa; MVP of Tri-State Sr. AA championship game, co-MVP of Crabfeast Championship game; top frosh at National Face-Off Club at Boston, Mass.; Big 4 All-Star; UNC Team Camp All- Star; Rising Sophomore Nike Blue Chip; U15 Brine All-Star Academy.

Academic honors: First honors freshman year, Malvern Prep

What will you major in/study? Business

Why did you choose the school? “I chose UNC because as soon as I walked onto campus, it felt right. Also, the coaching staff and the players truly embody the family feeling. I love the weather and they have great facilities. UNC gives me the opportunities to reach all my future goals, academically and athletically.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next season? “We had a tough year last year, but many great players are returning and we are looking for a strong season. We are ready to work hard to earn an Inter-Ac championship.”

Other schools considered? Maryland, Penn, Penn State, Virginia, Johns Hopkins, Duke and Denver.
