Germantown Academy senior midfielder Will Black has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Swarthmore College.

Will Black log:

Will Black

High School: Germantown Academy

Graduation Year: 2012

Position: Midfielder

College Choice: Swarthmore College

Club Affiliation: Twist

Major lacrosse honors: 2011 Philly Showcase Fab 40, Team Philadelphia Brine National Classic

What will you major in/study? Undecided

Why did you choose Swarthmore? “I was sort of all over the board when it came to recruiting and I’m so glad that I was patient with the process. I wanted to go to a school where I could excel academically, compete on a motivated team and also try out a lot of different things off the field and outside of the classroom.

Coach (Pat) Gress is one of the only coaches I met that truly understood my priorities as a student-athlete and I can’t wait to go to work for him next year.

Part of my rationale was also that I was offered a full scholarship for four years as a recipient of the McCabe Achievement Award, which made the decision a little easier. I had awesome options and at the end and I’m confident that I’ll be at a great place for the next four years.”

Outlook for your high school team? “It’s been interesting for me to watch from the sidelines this year as I’m out for the season with a torn ACL, and I’ve seen that we’re an extremely talented team with spurts of great focus but lack of depth. I’m completely confident that when we all really understand the work necessary to dominate the way we should, consistently, there’s nothing that can stop us, especially with our great senior leadership this year.”

Additional Comments: “I’d really like to thank my parents and sister, Taylor, for supporting me since I was a toddler trying to learn the game, and also the coaches and faculty at GA. Also, I want to give a special shout out to #DaKidz12, my buddies in DHU, and the entire lacrosse team.”
