Episcopal Academy rising junior goalie Brian Zappala has committed to the admissions process at the University of Pennsylvania.

Brian Zappala log:

Brian Zappala

High School:
Episcopal Academy

Position: Goalie

Year of graduation: Class of 2014

College Choice: University of Pennsylvania

Club Affiliation:
Dukes LC

Major Lacrosse Honors/Camps:
Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip Camp Rising Sophomore 2011 (recognized by Inside Lacrosse as a top goalie in the class of 2014); Ranked #9 Player Overall and #1 Goalie on Inside Lacrosse Top 20 Young Gun Sophomores; Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip Rising Junior Camp 2012 (recognized by Inside Lacrosse as a top goalie in the class of 2014). Episcopal Academy Varsity player for 2012 Inter-Ac Tournament Championship team; Overall Dukes LC Co-MVP 2011 Quaker Fall Laxfest; Dukes 2 – 2012 Defensive MVP Champ Camp.

Expected college major: “At this point and time, I am leaning toward Business.”

Why did you choose Penn? “We began the recruiting process almost a year ago. During that time, I visited several schools which provided a broad range of opportunities and perspectives. After my visits with Coach (Mike) Murphy this summer, seeing the quality of the lacrosse program he is building and the academic aspects that the University offers, it was clear Penn was the perfect choice for me as a student-athlete. I am thrilled to be a part of the Penn community.”

Also considered: Harvard, Maryland, UNC and Denver

HS outlook for 2013 season:
“The 2013 season will provide new leadership opportunities for our program. We return several seniors who were significant contributors in 2012, along with key underclassmen who are ready to step in and compete in the Inter-AC. Our goals are to build on the success of the 2012 season, and reach for an Inter-Ac Championship.”

Other comments: “First, and foremost, I would like to thank my parents for their guidance and encouragement. I would also like to thank my high school coaches at Episcopal Academy: Coach (Andy) Hayes especially for his support throughout the recruiting process, along with Coach (Marty) Kupprion, Coach (Will) Gibbs, Coach (John) Bodner and Coach Reynolds for their leadership. Finally, I would like to thank my Duke’s LC coaches: Coach Ebe (Helm), Coach (Jason) Christmas, Coach (Joe) Vetrone, Coach (Mike) Mackrides and Coach (Eric) Gregg, for the challenges and opportunities they have provided me. Coach Ebe has been a mentor in developing my game.”

Note: All-student-athletes applying to Ivy League schools must continue through the admissions process
