LEAPS hosting 3rd Annual Friends and Benefits Pro Charity Game and Youth Play Day

October 8, 2012 by Chris Goldberg

The 3rd Annual LEAPS Friends and Benefits Pro Charity Game and Youth Play Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Chestnut Hill College’s Victory Field at Plymouth Whitemarsh High.

Special thanks to CHC coach Brian Dougherty for once again hosting on the turf.

The day starts at 9 AM with a youth clinic for inner city kids and concludes with a charity game starting at 12 PM. In between the clinic and Charity game will be scrimmages featuring Philly Public League High School All Stars.

Since 2008 LEAPS has taught 15,000 inner city or underserved kids the sport of lacrosse in Philly, Wilmington, and Camden. LEAPS helped start the Philly Public High School League and Philly Middle Grades League, and the growth continues.

This spring 2013, Roxborough, Frankford and West Philly High Schools will all start teams. LEAPS has also partnered with the Salvation Army Kroc Center to facilitate lacrosse camps and a lacrosse club for inner city youth!

The charity event aims to offset the costs associated with these new programs such as equipment and uniforms, training new coaches and players, and supplementing the spring season with off season clinics and play days to increase exposure and raise awareness.

This is an invitation for volunteers to come on out and participate. Mentoring the kids at the clinic is a great time and the game that follows allows the kids to see their “teachers” at work. Food, drinks, and uniforms will be provided for game participants.

Individuals or organizations can also participate by sponsoring players with a portion of the proceeds going to a charity of the sponsors choice, and the rest going to offset costs for the day and fund the LEAPS and Salvation Army’s inner city lacrosse program. Any amount helps, no donation is too small.

LEAPS will be collecting any gently used equipment, so please bring that gear that doesn’t fit anymore, our kids will use it!

Volunteers are needed! As a 501 c 3 Non Profit Organization, LEAPS fulfills student community service initiatives, so high school and college students are encouraged to volunteer.
