Katie Samson Live Blog: Haverford School (13), Conestoga (8)

Phillylacrosse.com Editor Chris Goldberg is here at Radnor High for the much-anticipated Haverford School-Conestoga boys’ lacrosse game at the 12th annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival.

These two teams have been ranked 1-2 in the state of Pennsylvania for a year and a half and are ranked among the top teams in the country. Haverford School (14-1) is currently No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the nation by LaxMagazine.com, No. 3 by MaxPreps.com, ESPNHS and Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse.

Conestoga is ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 6 in the nation by UA/IL, No. 7 by ESPNHS, and No. 8 by MaxPreps.com and LaxMagazine.

A crowd of close to 5,000 is expected for one of Philly’s top rivalries. Last year The Fords toppled the Pioneers, 11-6.

First Period

So far no major scoring chances for either team with 5:20 left

Haverford controlling possessions, but still no score

Conestoga has possession – 2:20 to play in period

HS’s Jake Landman stops Connor Frisina – HS takes possession

Conestoga has ball with 1:16 to play, but loses it with :30 to play

Period ends – not much offense!

Second Period

Con – Tyler Brooke blasts one home off a feed from pole Jamie Ikeda – scoring chance came off face-off transition, 11:38 to play

Landman stones Jake Scott, keeps score at 1-0 Conestoga

HS – Timmy Brooks ties game for Fords with blast from 15 yards out, 1-1 contest, 8:42 to play

HS – Henry Blynn scores off a Peter Blynn feed – call it brotherly love!, 6:40 to play – 2-1 Fords

HS – Henry Blynn again from Rohr, close in shot, 4:16 to play; Haverford leads 3-1 with three unanswered goals.

HS – Blynn once again on a feed from McBride on a man-up situation, 4:01 – Now 4-1, Fords dominating

HS – Reilly Hupfeldt makes it 5-1 on a pass from Blynn, 1:31. Again Man-Up Game is turning into a rout.
Half ends with Fords up 5-1. Very dominant performance.

2nd Half
Third period

HS – Zach Rego (unassisted). 10:44 – Now 6-1

HS – Henry Blynn from Rego, 9:49 – 7-1

HS – H. Blynn from Rego again, 8:21, 8-1

Con – Jake Scott from Frisina, 8:15 – stops the bleeding, now 8-2 after Fords get eight straight goals.

Con – Andrew DiStefano (X), 4:53, 8-3

Con – Bradlee Lord (X), 4:40 – Pioneers back within 8-4

Con – Frisina from Brooke, 3:24 – 8-5 -looks like we have a game

HS – H. Blynn scores his sixth of the game, 2:38 – Goal stops Conestoga surge. Now 9-5

Con – Brooke from Jordan Klunder, 12.2 secs left – now 9-6. Can Pioneers complete amazing comeback?

4th period

Con – Adam Goins (X), 11:35 – Pioneers within 9-7

HS – McBride frm Blynn, 7:54, man-up after two-minute unreleasable by Ikeda, now 10-7

HS – Rohr from Rego, shortly after end of penalty, 5:55 – Conestoga comeback hits a snag – now 11-7

HS – Will Gural off his own face-off win, 5:50, Now 12-7

Con – Brooke from Lord, 4:36, Now 12-8 Fords

HS – Blynn scores his 7th goal from Warner Bailey after Connor Black makes a key takeaway. It’s 13-8 with 1:35 to play. Haverford has control of the game now

Final 13-8 Haverford School

Haverford senior Henry Blynn with one of top games of the year – 7 goals, 2 assists

Jake Landman 14 saves – Robbie Zonino 7 saves
