Josh Hanlon, who started the varsity boys’ lacrosse program at Neshaminy, has stepped down after seven seasons.
Hanlon guided the Redskins to a record of 56-70. He recently left Neshaminy School District to accept another teaching position.
“I will most miss the relationships I have built with players on the team,” said Hanlon. “Leaving was a difficult decision, but one I had to do to further my career. We have always had great support from parents and community members.”
Hanlon grew up in Lower Bucks County and began playing for the boys’ senior program at Lower Bucks Lacrosse Club. He was a three-time First Team All-Centennial Conference and a two-time NCAA All-American selection at McDaniel College (Md.). In 2004 he participated in the STX/USILA North vs. South All Star Game.
He credited former Pennsbury coach Dean Curtis for helping him learn to be a coach.
“I started as the head coach at the age of 23 so I did a lot of growing up along the way,” Hanlo nsaid. “ I coached for one year under Dean Curtis at Pennsbury. He taught me most of what I know about how to be a good coach and helped me understand the game and how to lead young men.
“He even served as a mentor for me when I coached at Neshaminy. That is the beauty of lacrosse (compared) to other sports in in Lower Bucks County. We want each other to succeed. We care about the game more than individual accomplishments.”
Hanlon also served as the Philly region coach for the brine National Lacrosse Classic in 2010-11. He remains as a coach for Lower Bucks and Arrowhead Lacrosse.
