Two-time collegiate All-American Steve Hettrich (Downingtown High) is among the seven members of this year’s Denison University Hall of Fame inductees.

The Denison Varsity D Association inducted the group Friday and will honor them today at halftime of the Denison football game against The College of Wooster.

Hettrich was a four-year letterwinner and a two-time All-American in men’s lacrosse; a second-team All-American as a junior and a first-team selection as a senior, Hettrich scored 77 career goals which ranks 24th all-time at Denison. A three-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection, Hettrich earned first-team honors as a sophomore in 1996 and again as a senior in 1998.

Hettrich was part of a Downingtown team that over two years was 29-9, teaming up with high school All-American midfielder Chris Pauxtis, High School All-American attackman David Marks, All-State midfielder Matt Winkler, collegiate North-South All star and Denison university teammate Darrin Gardener, College All-American defensmen Keith Wilford, among others.

“Steve was an incredible athlete and one of the country’s best lacrosse players,” said Bob Peppelman, then the coach at Downingtown. “Mike Caravana, Denison Head Coach and Team USA coach, once told me that, ‘Steve was the best player he ever coached.'”
