The highly anticipated theatrical release for Crooked Arrows, the first mainstream lacrosse movie, has been confirmed for May 18.

The movie follows the progress of the team, its new coach and their unlikely journey to the New York State prep school championship game. The film, which was shot this summer on Boston’s north shore, stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Gil Birmingham (Twilight), and was directed by veteran helmer Steve Rash.

The movie features top lacrosse players from around the country, including a team of Iroquois players recruited last summer in and around Syracuse. Inside Lacrosse has also learned that professionals Paul Rabil, Zack Greer and Brodie Merrill make cameo appearances along with several top college and high school coaches, including John Desko, Chris Wojcik, Lars Tiffany, Kevin Gale, Mike Messere, Dom Starsia, Mike Daly, and Gary Gait . The film was executive produced by former Syracuse All-American Jeffrey McCormick, who led a group of over 50 lacrosse-inspired investors, including the Onondaga Nation.

The producers have amassed a powerful group of partners for its marketing and distribution plan. The Onondaga Nation, US Lacrosse, Reebok, Moe’s Southwestern Grill, and radio and outdoor advertising giant Clear Channel. Additionally, Laxpower, Lacrosse Monkey, Bam Shaft, Tru Clrs, and Laxmedals have become product partners.

“It’s really a dream come true,” said co-producer Mitchell Peck who originally developed the script several years ago. “The world may not have been ready for a lacrosse film ten years ago, but they certainly are now, judging from the huge support we’ve been getting both on line and from communities eager to make sure the movie screens in their cities.”

Added producing partner Todd Harris “we saw the love at the US Lacrosse Convention in January. Now we’re mobilizing lacrosse leaders in every community to make sure they get their teams, friends and families out for our opening weekend. That’s the key to this first lacrosse movie taking the world by storm.”

Crooked Arrows will be released nationally on May 18 in consultation with Freestyle Releasing and Russell Schwartz’s Pandemic Marketing.
