Bucks Select, one of the premier boys and girls club programs in the Philadelphia area, finished 2011 with six tournament championships including wins at the Brine Charm City Classic (girls’ championship), Lehigh Laxfest (boys’ championship), Lehigh King of the Mountain Tournament (boys’ championship), and an impressive three boys’ championships at the Sweet Laxin’ tournament.
“Our program focuses on developing elite high school players who want to compete at the highest level in the summer and the fall so that they have an advantage in the NCAA recruiting process and during their high school season, and our youth teams focus on developing players who will excel in youth, high school and college lacrosse,” said Paul McGovern, Director of Bucks Select Lacrosse.
McGovern added, “We compete in some of the best boys’ and girls’ recruiting tournaments in the country, including King of the Hill, Rutgers MVP, Crab City Challenge, Battle of the Hotbeds, Charm City Classic, All American Showcase, National Draw and All Star Express because our players and coaches want to compete against other elite clubs and also because those tournaments attract college coaches from all over the United States.
“We also give our players individual recruiting assistance by working with them to develop their own personal year round recruiting plan and providing opportunities to sit down with college coaches at our annual college lacrosse recruiting seminar.”
The most impressive run in 2011 came from the boys’ 2016 Red team, coached by Steve Hogan and Andy Fisher, which finished 2011 with a 21-3 tournament record, with two championships (Sweet Laxin’ and Lehigh King of the Mountain) and three second-place finishes.
“The coaches are very proud of how the boys conducted themselves both on and off the field,” said Hogan. “This is a hard working group of boys who have been fortunate to have been playing together for several seasons, and they seem to get better as a team every time they go out there.”
Bucks Select is an elite, club lacrosse program open to all boys and girls in Bucks County, all surrounding counties and the Lehigh Valley. The coaching staff includes high school coaches from 13 different Philadelphia area high school programs and youth coaches from nine different programs from SEPYLA, PAGLA and the Lehigh Valley Youth League. Bucks Select has players from 21 different high school programs and 14 youth programs, so players have an opportunity to play with the best players from all over the Delaware Valley.
“We can’t wait for the 2012 tournament season to begin so that we can continue to build our program into one of the elite club programs in the Philadelphia area and beyond,” added McGovern.
