The Access Lacrosse U-13 girls’ lacrosse team claimed the team championship recently at the Morey’s Piers Beach Lacrosse Tournament at Wildwood.

Access, whose team was comprised of players from the West Deptford area, won all four of its games and capped the weekend with a 9-7 triumph over Coventry in the finals.

Access Lacrosse also whipped Vernon PAL, 10-2 in the semifinals.
Team members included Madison Accardi, Briana Costello, Kim Hesser, Allison McCormick, Bella Neff, Alynn Phelan, MacKell Schultes and Mia Wilson. Phelan led in goals, Schultes was a standout in goal and captain Costello was a leader on and off the field. The squad was coached by Mike and Liz Costello.
Meanwhile, the Access U-14 team went 2-1 overall, losing by a single goal in the defeat. The squad included Brianna Austin, Avery Bailey, Julia Gibson, Emily Gilligan, Phoebe Hill, Samantha Souder, Fiona Terranova and Heather Ward. The U14 coaches were Janine and Pat Ward.
“Because the coaches had experience with beach lacrosse, and studied up on the tules, they practiced on a similar size field to what they wold be playing on during the event,” said Access Lacrosse owner and team sponsor John Barrett. “So they were well prepared.
“On game day the coaches and team members arrived 35 minutes early to the assigned field, and they were very well organized. Our coaches took the time to help set up the field and comb the field for debris or any other element that could injure the participant.
“Overall, I am very proud of what the ladies were able to accomplish. They are definitely a higher level group of players and they did a good job at adjusting to the conditions they were playing in (turf vs sand).”
