Springside Chestnut Hill Academy rising junior defenseman Sean Delaney has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.

Sean Delaney log:

Sean Delaney

High School: Springside Chestnut Hill Academy

Graduation Year: 2014

Position: Defenseman

College Choice: Villanova University

Club Affiliation: HEADstrong Team

Major lacrosse honors: 2010 Rookie of the Year (Wissahickon High School), Varsity Letters Freshman and Sophomore Years, 2012 Defensive Player of the Year (SCH), 2012 Brine National Classic All-Star Team, 2012 Upper Atlantic Tournament & Tri-State National tournament Champs (HEADstrong Gold)

What will you major in/study? Undecided

Why did you choose Villanova? “When I visited Villanova, I felt very excited. I was impressed with the size of the college and how everyone I spoke to (from college coaches to past and present students and alumni) about attending Villanova said it is like belonging to a family.

“I really liked the emphasis on academics. I know that Villanova will give me the opportunity to graduate with a degree from a very prestigious university, but the deal clincher for me was when I met with Coach (Mike) Corrado and his staff. His honesty, enthusiasm and passion that he showed convinced me that Villanova is the university I want to be a part of. I am looking forward to being challenged in the classroom and on the field.”

Outlook for your HS team? “I am very excited about next year’s season. We lost some key players to graduation, but we are a very young and talented team. We play in the Inter-Ac league which is very competitive, but I expect SCH to turn some heads. What we lack in depth, we surely make up with Coach (Mike) DelGrande’s dedication and experience to the program.”

Additional Comments: “I would not be in this position without the help of many people. First, I would like to thank Coach Michael DelGrande (SCH) for the confidence he has in my play. My other coaches that played a part in my development are Coaches Brian Neary, Steve Hill, Brian Hill, and John McSorly (HEADstrong); Coach Harry Sankey (Rebel Elite); Coaches Gabriele, Simmington, Gifford and Juliani (WHS); and Mr. Tom Kovic (Victory Collegiate Consulting).

“A huge thanks to my parents for taking me to all of my tournaments and believing in me, and also to my brother for coming out and supporting me.”
