St. Joseph’s Prep rising junior defenseman Andrew Benedict has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Marquette University.

Andrew Benedict log:

Andrew Benedict

High School: St. Joseph’s Preparatory School

Graduation Year: 2014

Position: Defense

College Choice: Marquette University

Club Affiliations: Dukes LC, South Jersey Shamrocks

Major lacrosse honors: All-Star at Baltimore Summer Kickoff and Gait Cup; Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip, Maverick Showtime, Tri-State and Champ Camp. Varsity Starter as Sophomore. PIAA State finalist 2011

What will you major in/study? Business and Pre-Law

Why did you choose Marquette? “I chose Marquette because it’s a Jesuit University like the Prep with strong academics and dedication to service. Coach (Joe) Amplo, Coach (Stephen) Brundage, and Coach (John) Orsen are building something special and I want to be a big part of Marquette lacrosse.”

Other Schools Considered: Lehigh, Bucknell, Penn and Denver

What is your outlook for your high school team next season? “We have a ton of talent returning and we will be working hard in the off-season to win the Catholic League Championship and the PIAA State Championship.”

Additional Comments: “I would like to first thank my family for their great advice and always coming to my games. Thank you to my Prep Coach, Eric Gregg for developing me and helping me grow my game. Thanks to all the Dukes LC coaches, especially Ebe Helm, Jason Christmas, Joe Vetrone, and Billy Mckinney. Also, thanks to my Shamrocks coaches, Bill Keane, Mike Yarusso and Steve Picot.”
