Women’s recruit: Boyertown senior defender Solazzo commits to Eastern University

Boyertown senior defender Lauren Solazzo has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Eastern University.

Boyertown's Lauren Solazzo will play at Eastern

Solazzo helped the Bears (19-7) win their eighth straight Pioneer Athletic Conference championship and advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament for the second time in three years. She played club lacrosse for AfterShock and was named Academic All-Conference this month.

This year Eastern went 7-9 and advanced to the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs under coach Camrin Azzarano.

“I really liked the atmosphere at Eastern and the campus is beautiful,” said Solazzo, who hopes to study communications. “I met some of the professors and since it’s a private school I like that it’s small. It’s not too far away and my sister (Megan) goes there.”

Solazzo, one of only four seniors for the Bears this year, said Boyertown meshed and became a complete team as the season progressed. The Bears went undefeated in the league for the eighth straight year and easily defeated Methacton in the league finals.

“Being one of four seniors, it was kind of scary going because the team was so young and inexperienced,” she said. “Nobody thought we’d win the PAC-10. We knew we’d have real competition.

“We just bonded really well. We have really good coaching and we knew to step it up and play to our potential. Beating Conestoga (12-11 in the District 1 playoffs) was my favorite memory because it showed how heart had put us in a good spot to get to states.

“I loved how we were able to prove people wrong, and that this was the same Boyertown, maybe even better.”
