Clinics

Skill Sessions at United Sports; Sundays starting September 11. Six 1-hour sessions, the perfect amount of time to sharpen the essential skills needed to be a competitive lacrosse player. Skill sessions are ideal for beginner to intermediate players. Each session will focus on a different set of skills or concept, but all fundamental skills will emphasized each session. The Duke’s Lacrosse Club has revised its schedule for the annual Ricky Whelan Developmental Program clinics. The first clinic was held Sunday, Sept. 11; all remaining clinics are as follows:

*Saturday, Sept. 17, 2:30-5 p.m. at Shipley School’s new turf field on Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr. (walkup candidates should try to arrive at 2:15 to avoid long lines). Parking should be available off of Montgomery avenue entrance.

*Sunday, Sept. 25, 4-6 p.m., Harriton High (walk-ups at 3:30)
*Saturday, Oct. 1, 2:30-5 PM at Shipley School.
Parking should be available off of Montgomery avenue entrance.
*Sunday, Oct. 9, 4-6 p.m. Harriton High
*Sunday, Oct. 16, 4-6 p.m. at Harriton High.

Black Bear Lacrosse has teamed with West Chester Lacrosse to present a FREE boys clinic at Kelly’s Field on Saturday, September 17th from 3:30 – 5:30. Top coaches and current and former pro players will run the program. Players from 6 to 14 years old are invited. Space is limited, register at www.blackbearlax.com to save your spot!

The Logan Schweiter benefit/fundraising clinic for all elementary school and middle school age boys, Sunday, September 18, from 3-4:30 p.m. at Wilson Park. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. A donation of $25 is suggested. The clinic will be run by Dave Metzbower, Malvern Prep coach, Peter Scott, CYL coach, and Conestoga High School lacrosse players. On July 25, Logan was caught under water in a flooded creek. He was pulled out, resuscitated and taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital and then later transferred to CHOP. To help with the many injury-related expenses not covered by insurance, a fundraising campaign in Logan’s honor has been established with National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). NTAF is a local nonprofit that has been assisting the transplant and catastrophic injury communities for more than 28 years. All donations are tax-deductible and are administered by NTAF for injury-related expenses only.

2011 Fall Lacrosse Instructional Clinics for boys in grades K-8, Sept. 18 – Oct. 9, at The Haverford School Sessions run from 1:00 pm – 3:00 PM. 4 Sunday sessions: September 18, September 25, October 2, October 9. $225 fee or individual session cost of $60/session.

Lacrosse players get better by playing in game situations and learning key components to excel. Whether it is playing game after game or being individually coached with demonstrations and instruction, each player will be taught the skills necessary for success.

Each two hour session will include include 1 hour of positional instruction (attack, defense, midfield, goalie) and 1 hour of games; designed to improve technique, and game skills. Sessions will include but are not limited to: dodging, shooting, feeding, checks, defensive positioning, slides, and stick skills. There will also be special sessions for goalies and face-off men. Our knowledgeable and experienced staff will provide you with the skills and confidence needed to take your game to the next level.

Elite Defense Academy with Brett Moyer; Monday Nights starting September 19 at United Sports. Training and comprehending the “Team Defense” concepts while acquiring the skills to become a master defender. Contact Brett Moyer, brettmoyer15@gmail.com with questions about the Academy. Warrior/Brine free coaches clinic Sunday Sept. 25 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the St. Paul’s School in Baltimore, MD. The clinic will feature many top coaches in the sport and will cover the following areas: Man Up Offense, Developing Goalies, Man Down Defense, Practice Drills, Transition Drills, Face Off Drills, Settled Offense, and drills for younger player development. Coaches providing instruction are: Dave Metzbower (Malvern Prep, former longtime assistant at Princeton), Dave Cottle (Chesapeake Bayhawks), Charlie Toomey (Loyola), Shawn Nadelen (Towson), Don Zimmerman (UMBC), Jay Dyer (Johns Hopkins Strength and Conditioning), Alex Smith (Team USA /Bayhawks/Delaware alum), Bryan Kelly (Calvert Hall), and Rick Brocato (St. Paul’s School). Lehigh Boys Fall Lacrosse High School Elite Clinic for Juniors, October 23, 1:00pm-5:00pm, Lehigh University Goodman Athletic Campus.

This clinic is designed for elite level high school juniors. It will allow for the athletes to compete against top level competition while working with the Lehigh coaching staff and players. The day will start with small group positional skill work and progress into full field games. The Clinic will be capped at 75 players to maximize player experience.

Players need to bring: Lacrosse equipment (helmet, stick, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, athletic supporter, mouth guard, cleats, turf shoes), water. Clinic Fee $100.

Old School Lacrosse Winter Lacrosse Training starts Dec 4th at the Phelps School Indoor Field house, Malvern. December 4th will be an evaluation date. Following evaluation you will be notified of what session to attend. Sessions will be broken down by skill level. Dates are Dec, 4, 11, 18, Jan. 8,15,22,29, Feb. 5,12. Sessions are either Session #1- 3:30-5pm or Session #2 -5-6:30pm. Fee: $400 (Only “30” spots available for each session).

Old School Winter Lacrosse Training will give you the tools needed to prepare yourself for the up-coming season. Training will consist of Stick Skills, Offensive/Defensive, Strategies/Positioning, controlled scrimmages and more.

Players need to bring: full lacrosse equipment, mouth guard, cleats, running shoes, sweat top and bottom, shorts, t-shirt, reversible practice tank-top.

Old School Lacrosse Pre-Season Combine, December 28-30, from 9am-3pm with an hour for lunch, at The Phelps School Indoor Field house, Malvern. Fee: $300 (Only “40” spaces available).

This fast paced, intense Pre-Season combine will separate you from the competition. The Combine will offer Stick Skills, Speed and Conditioning, Offensive/Defensive Strategies/Positioning, Plyometrics, Weight room workouts, Agility Training, College Recruiting Information/Preparation Awareness.
