Tuesday’s boys’ lacrosse roundup: Downingtown West edges Unionville in OT; gears for battle with D-Town East Thursday

Eric Rankel scored the game-winner in overtime to lift visiting Downingtown West to a 10-9 victory Tuesday over Unionville in boys’ lacrosse, helping the Whippets to remain undefeated in the Ches-Mont League.

Zach Logan (three goals) sent the game into OT with 28 seconds to play for the Whippets (11-1, 6-0), who host Downingtown East Thursday in a Ches-Mont showdown.

Billy Donovan had four goals for Unionville (5-7, 3-4).

Downingtown East 13, Henderson 10

Aaron Murphy pumped in six goals while Trey Lauletta had a goala and five assists to keep the Cougars (9-2, 5-0) undefeated in the Ches-Mont.

Sebastian Kerslake scored four goals for the Warriors.

Great Valley 18, Bayard Rustin 3

Eric Gartner had six goals and one assist, while Greg Merrill (two assists) and Tim Lamb added three goals apiece to lead the Patriots.

Connor Annunziato recorded all three goals for Rustin.

Kennett 8, Bishop Shanahan 6

Tim Weeks and Kevin McQuiston each scored two goals and goalie Gannon Meister made 16 saves to power the Blue Demons to a win over the Eagles in Ches-Mont action.

Joe McErlean had four goals to pace Shanahan.

Malvern Prep 11, Penn Charter 9

Keith Dreyer erupted for eight goals and Drew Kennedy won 18 of 23 faceoffs, scooped up 14 ground balls scored a goal and two assists to lead the Friars to an Inter-Ac League victory over the Quakers.

Sophomore goalie Matt Barrett made nine saves in the second half for Malvern.

Joey Sankey had three goals and three assists while Shane Carr scored three goals for the Quakers.

Episcopal Academy 9, Chestnut Hill Academy 3

Tyler Odell had three goals and an assist as the Churchmen snapped a seven-ganme losing streak.

Conestoga 11, Radnor 3

Tyler Brooke scored three goals and Brad Lord added two goals and an assist while John Lopes made nine saves to keep the Pioneers undefeated.

If Conestoga (11-0, 6-0) defeats Marple Newtown Thursday, it will set up a showdown Saturday at the Katie Samson Festival between the Pioneers, ranked No. 2 in the nation, and No. 1 Haverford School.

Jeff Puckette had two goals and Mike Barnes won 11 of 15 face-offs for the Red Raiders.

Garnet Valley 17, Harriton 2

Jules Raucci had three goals and two assists and Robert Raucci added three goals and one assist while Steve Smyrl contributed two goals and four assist for the Jaguars in the Central League.

Springfield-Delco 11, Marple Newtown 1

Joe Venit had three goals and an assist for the Cougars in the Central League win.

Shipley School 18, Friends’ Central 4

Mike Litner had five goals, three assists and Julius Mouser scored three goals to lead the Gators to the Friends Schools league rout.

Archbishop Wood 10, Cardinal O’Hara 4

Chris Rahill and Brian Butler each had two goals and one assist and Shane Moyer had a goal and 11 groundballs to pace the Vikings to the Catholic League win.

Barry Downes scored twice for O’Hara.

Holy Ghost Prep 16, Devon Prep 1

Jeremy Omrod and Bennett Bennett Zaba each scored three goals to pace the Firebirds to the Bicentennial Athletic League rout.

New Hope-Solebury 17, Devon Prep 1

John Cimbalista had five goals and an assist and Jeff Cimbalista added four goals and one assist to pace the Lions to the Bicentennial League win.
