September 2011 will mark the fourth annual 9/11 Heroes Run in Doylestown, Manion’s hometown, where thousands have run to remember. In 2010, six Heroes Runs were put on in various towns across the country including Doylestown, Irvine, CA and Annapolis, MD.

1st Lt. Travis Manion, USMC, was a 1999 graduate of La Salle College High and a lacrosse standout. He was a Marine Corps officer who was killed by a sniper while serving in Iraq on April 29, 2007.

This morning Janet Manion, Travis’ mother, and Amy Looney were guests on Fox & Friends as the kickoff for a series of events in New York with Dan Akerson, the Chairman and CEO of General Motors, to announce a partnership on the 9/11 Heroes Run at the USS Intrepid. Amy Looney is the mother of LT (SEAL) Brendan Looney, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan last year and was the best friend of 1st Lt. Manion.

The two are laid side-by-side at Arlington National Cemetery.

In all, 30 races will be held on 9-11, also in New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Alabama, Missouri, Texas, Florida, and California as well as in the United Kingdom, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The goal of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 is to bring more than 100,000 men, women, and children out in 30 towns and cities across America and four countries to remember the sacrifice and service of all those in uniform that protect us every day.
