Sean Tischler has been named the head boys’ lacrosse coach at Sun Valley.
Tischler was an assistant coach at Delaware power Salesianum School from 2005-07 and at Friends’ Central in 2008. The past two years he was head coach at Wilmington Christian in Delaware.
A native of Philadelphia and alum of Northeast High, Tischler first played lacrosse for the club team at East Stroudsburg University in the mid-1990s. He was a goalie.
Tischler replaces Kyle Garzia, who was head coach for six years and left to take an assistant position at Cabrini College.
Tischler said he has had some strong models in his career as an assistant – Bob Healy at Salesianum (which won the state title in 2007) and JB Bowie at Friends’ Central (Friends Schools League champion in 2008).
“Our goal as a staff is to help our young men to exceed their personal expectations, in the weight room, on the field, and most importantly off the field and in the classroom,” Tischler said.
Last year the Vanguards went 9-9 as a member of the Ches-Mont League. In 2009, the team went 11-7 and advanced to the District 1 tournament during its first year as a league member
“Our first goal for 2011 as a staff at Sun Valley is to first continue to build upon the foundation that Coach Garzia worked hard to build over the course of several years,” Tischler said. “This league is filled with great teams that will be competing in May and June for a state championship.
“What we want to do is compete with these teams for 48 minutes and get better as a program.”
