Annie Woehling made an amazing 20 saves and Radnor scored five straight goals to open the second half and then held off a late challenge by Episcopal Academy to claim a 10-7 non-league victory tonight in a battle of two of the top-rated teams in the state.
The win raised the Red Raiders – ranked No. 2 in PA Media Rankings – record to 8-1. EA, ranked No. 4, fell to 5-2.
The game was tied, 3-3, at halftime when the Raiders raced to an 8-3 lead. EA tallied the next four goals and drew within 8-7 on a goal by Taylor Trimble (two goals) with 8:30 to play.
But Woehling, headed to Princeton, and the Raiders blanked Episcopal Academy the rest of the way and Emily Gerber scored to make it 9-7.
Lindsay Grossman led Radnor with three goals and Shannon Quinn and Taryn Deck added two apiece while Natalie Miller dished off four assists. Leah Gallagher did a standout job defending Trimble – the Team USA U19 captain and Duke signee – and finished with three groundballs, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
Blake McHugh paced EA with three goals.
North Penn 17, Owen J. Roberts 5
Garrie Grenfell had six goals and an assist and Kaitlin Suzuki added three goals and an assist to lead the Maidens to a non-league win.
West Chester East 19, Sun Valley 4
Morgan Gallagher pumped in six goals while Hayley Tomilson and Lizzie Cassidy each had four and Meryl Leathers scored three to pace East to the Ches-Mont League win.
Julia Falcone added two goals for the Vikings. Anna Cerami and Jordan Hopkins each
Villa Maria Academy 12, Germantown Academy 10
Jenna Mertz scored four goals and Erin Kelly had two goals and four assists to pace the Hurricanes to the non-league win.
Brooke Kiley had five goals to pace GA.
Haverford High 14, Bishop Sullivan (VA) 10
Katrina Geiger had seven goals and two assists to lead the Fords to a victory and a sweep of their Virginia foes.
Shipley School 16, George School 4
Avery Safford had five goals and three caused turnovers to help the Gators earn the Friends’ Schools League win.
Leading the way on defense was Teddy Chase with four caused turnovers, and Lauren Scutt with three caused turnovers. The defense of Chase, Scutt, Marcela Heywood, Alayna Harris and Katie Leyden was standout in front of freshman goalie Madison Bailey (5 saves).
Mount St. Joseph 16, Villa Marie 5
Olivia Gannon had five goals and two assists and Stevie Wells paced the midfield with seven draw controls, two groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Mount in the Catholic Academies win.
Harriton 20, Laney (NC) 0
Carli Sukonik had four goals and two assists, Betsy Hurtado scored four goals and Jess Schwab added three goals and three assists while Jackie Marshall made four saves to lead the Rams to the shutout win in North Carolina.
Sacred Heart 17, Gwynedd Mercy Academy 10
Stephanie Finley had five goals and four assists and Eileen Dombrowski added three goals and three assists to lead Sacred Heart to the Catholic Academies win.
Nikki Fisher scored four goals for Gwynedd Mercy.
