Staff Report

Elite Training in Bryn Mawr is hosting two sessions of its Pre-Season Lacrosse Speed, Strength and Conditioning Camp for boys’ and girls’ lacrosse players in Grades 6 through 12.

Rosemont College captain and Upper Darby grad Thomas Dugan performs a drill in the Elite Training Strength and Conditioning Camp designed exclusively for lacrosse players

Rosemont College junior captain Thomas Dugan said the skills he learned in the camp have helped him make major improvements in his game as a long stick midfielder.

“The strength training is lacrosse-specific and it builds your fast-twitch muscles,” said Dugan, an Upper Darby grad. “I am a long pole and I have seen an incredible improvement in my ability to close gaps quickly.

“As a long pole, or on any position in lacrosse, you need at times to run distances quickly or run fast in short sprints. From the complex exercises, my first step has improved so much and that has helped me in both areas.”

The first session will run from Nov. 17-Dec. 17 and the second session runs from Jan. 5-March 3, 2012. The classes go from 7-8 p.m. each Thursday and 2:30-3:30 each Saturday.

Elite Training is located on North Warner Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010. Click here to see a YouTube video on one of the drills.

The camp addresses the unique needs of lacrosse players, such as footwork, hand speed, explosive power, muscular strength, anaerobic endurance, cardiovascular conditioning, core training and injury prevention.

“I have become really fast in picking up balls and getting breakaway speed,” said Dugan. “I am a lot quicker. It’s also helped my footwork so much. You start out with basic exercise and move to more complex ones, like the video with me on a box wearing a vest.”
