Staff Report

Springfield-Montco will host the annual Debbie MacFarland-Corrigan Lacrosse-A-Thon, a four-team girls’ lacrosse invitational Saturday to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The event begins at 10 a.m. when Springfield plays Cheltenham. At noon Penn-Wood meets Delco Christian and at 2 p.m. the host Spartans also play New Hope-Solebury.

Deb MacFarland Corrigan was a graduate of Enfield Elementary and Springfield Middle and High Schools. She was a gifted athlete and honor student who was valedictorian and president of her 1991 class. After graduating from the University of Richmond, where she earned a degree in psychology, Deb returned to Springfield and taught kindergarten and third grade at the Erdenheim Campus, while coaching lacrosse at Springfield Middle School.

On February 5, 2002, Deb died after a courageous and hard fought battle with Hodgkin’s disease at the age of 29. During her illness, she continued to be a positive role model to her students as well as to her colleagues.

Deb was a true role model and talented teacher and coach whose legacy lives on in Springfield Township. She is survived by her parents Bob and Gail MacFarland, her husband Michael Corrigan and her siblings, Jeff and Jill.

The snack bar will be open all day selling breakfast, lunch, and all sorts of snacks and beverages.
