Top-seeded Girls’ High capped off an undefeated season (12-0) and claimed the Public League Girls’ Lacrosse championship today with a 14-0 shutout of defending champion George Washington at Gratz High.

Senior Maryanne Manuel had seven saves for Girls’ High to earn the shutout, while seniors Chasidy Mclaurin (six goals) and Siena Childs (four goals) led the attack.

Girls’ High led only, 3-0, at halftime, but it scored six goals in a span of 2:21 to start the third period.

Shyna In, Somaly Kim, and Essence Ray-Simpson each scored once for Girls’ High in the second half.

“Our biggest asset has been team speed and we have two great goal scorers in Chasidy Mclaurin and Siena Childs,” said first year Girls’ High coach Mike Gann. “The defense, anchored by Taylor Rand and Shyna In, does not allow many opportunities to score.

“Hopefully it’s the start of many championships to come.”
