Philly Fever wins championship at HEADstrong Foundation/Relentless Lacrosse Indoor Winter Classic

The Philly Fever 2017 Orange team won the championship Friday at the HEADstrong Foundation/Relentless Lacrosse Indoor Winter Classic at United Sports in Downingtown.

The event hosted by the HEADstrong Foundation, raises funds and awareness for cancer research and assists people affected by blood cancer.

The Fever squad, coached by Paul O’Grady, Roddy Marino, and Tom Boles, In the Championship game the Fever faced the Collegeville team that beat them in the opening round, 11-8.

The title game remained close the until Ryan Jacob put the Fever up by two late in the fourth quarter with an upper corner blast. Collegeville cut the lead back to one but the Fever held on to win the first place prize.

The Fever rebounded after the opening-game loss to Collegeville team by beating Main Line Lax, 15-8. In the third game of pool play, the fever gained a thrilling 13-12 Braveheart win over Uprising as Mac Updike took the face off and drove right to the goal before scoring the game-winner.

Coach Tom Boles said, “I am really proud of the boys, after losing the first game they didn’t get down and raised their level of play for the rest of the day.”

Added midfielder Billy Coyle: “This is a great event and we were pumped to be a part of it.”

The Indoor Fever Team included Mac Updike, Chris Hervada, James Spence, Matt Boles, Billy Coyle, Ryan Jacob, Luke Tercianno, Matt Marino and Luke O’Grady.
