Trinity High School (Harrisburg) rising senior midfielder Julian Schulder-Elia has made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at Division I lacrosse at Mount St. Mary’s University.
Schulder-Elia helped Trinity finish 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the Mid-Penn 1 Conference this year.
Schulder-Elia, who played with the Nova West Lacrosse Club at the Brine Shootout, is an Honor Student at Trinity. He has also attended Top 205 Lacrosse Camps.
Schulder-Elia plans on studying Business with a concentration in Finance at Mount St. Mary’s, the Northeast Conference champions in 2011
“When I originally began my college search, one of the first schools I looked into was Mount Saint Mary’s,” said Schulder-Elia. “A teacher of mine, John ‘Mr. C’ Cominsky, is a professor down at The Mount – his passion in the classroom helped me get a feel for what Mount Saint Mary’s U is all about.
“Once lacrosse came into the picture, the decision was easy. Coach [Tom] Gravante is really a great guy, and the program is on the verge of prominence.”
The popular Gravante, the head coach at the Mount since 1995, guided his club to the Northeast Conference title in its first year in the league. The Mount had won the Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference title in 2010.
Other rising seniors from the Philadelphia area that have already committed to Mount St. Mary’s are goalie Frankie McCarthy (Ridley) and defenseman Branden Mercier (Pottsgrove).
The Shamrocks’ winning record was especially impressive this year, because the boys’ lacrosse program was new to Trinity athletics in 2011.
“In our inaugural season at Trinity we finished with a 9-6 record. We missed the PIAA playoffs after an unfortunate set of events that led to a forfeit of out last game,” said Schulder-Elia. “That being said, I have high hopes for this upcoming season. We have a bunch of returning starters and a lot of talent.”
