Parkland senior defenseman Matt Bashore has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Gwynedd Mercy College.
Bashore has collected 115 grounds balls in his career for the Trojans, who finished 11-8 overall in 2010. Parkland plays in the Lehigh Valley Conference.
At Gwynedd Mercy, Bashore plans on majoring in biology and secondary education.
“From the second I stepped on the campus I loved everything about it,” said Bashore. “When I was talking to coach (Dana) Lindstrom he was very friendly and optimistic about where he was heading with the team.”
Gwynedd Mercy, in its second season of play, finished third in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) last year and had an overall record of 10-5. The Griffins advanced to the championship game before losing to Cabrini.
Bashore chose Gwynedd Mercy over Widener, Eastern and DeSales.
Bashore is the second Parkland senior to commit to play college lacrosse. Last fall attackman Kurtis Kaunas committed to Lehigh.
Bashore also is the fourth Philly senior to commit to Gwynedd Mercy. Great Valley’s Peter Pappas (face-off specialist/midfielder) and Ryan Wheeler (defenseman/LSM) and Methacton’s Ryan Murphy (goalie) also have committed to Gwynedd Mercy.
