New Hope-Solebury senior attackman John Cimbalista has made a verbal commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Widener University.

New Hope-Solebury's John Cimbalista has committed to play at Widener University

Cimbalista holds the school record for goals (114), assists (44), points (158), hat tricks (18) and consecutive hat tricks (seven). He has helped the Lions to a 9-0 start (5-0 in the Bicentennial Athletic League).

Cimbalista, who plays club lacrosse for Twist, was attracted to Widener’s rich lacrosse tradition and coach Jamie Lockard’s dedication during the recruitment process.

“From a lacrosse perspective, coach Lockard really worked with me through the admissions process and he treated me well for my official visit,” Cimbalista said. “There’s also a really strong tradition there over the past 15 years that I’m looking forward to being a part of.”

Cimbalista, who will major in Business Administration/Accounting, also liked the camaraderie of the team during his campus visits.

“It was good,” Cimbalista said. “I had fun with the guys. I’ve been down to a couple games so far this season and they seem like guys that play with a lot of heart.”

Cimbalista helped lead NHS to its first winning season last year (9-7). This years the Lions have a goal of winning the BAL crown and advancing to the District 1 tourney for the first time.

“We’ve got a pretty talented group of seniors that have all started together since freshman year,” Cimbalista said. “Over the past four years we’ve really gotten stronger. We’re looking to win the first BAL Championship this year.”
