Malvern Prep senior attack/midfielder Mike Bernier has committed to play Division III lacrosse at the University of Scranton.
Bernier was a key member of a Malvern Prep team that finished 13-8 and tied with Haverford School for the Inter-Ac League championship in 2010. He was also a member of the 2010 Junior Fab Forty All-Star Team at the Philly Lacrosse Showcase.
Bernier is a member of the National Arts Honor Society and he plans to study Business at Scranton.
“The original draw to go to school at Scranton was because the coach showed an interest in me,” Bernier said. “Also, the school has a great reputation and the team felt like a real family.”
Scranton is coached by James Rogalski. Other Philly seniors committed to Scranton are Matt Finor (midfielder) from Council Rock South and Dan Crawford (defenseman) from St. Joseph’s Prep.
Bernier is looking forward to being coached by first-year mentor Dave Metzbower, a former assistant for many years at Princeton and Delaware and an assistant last year at Haverford School.
In all, Malvern Prep has 14 players committed to play college lacrosse. Other Division III senior recruits include Wes Pancoast (LSM, Roanoke), Colin Farrell (midfielder, Dickinson), and Matthew Neeson (midfield, Denison).
Malvern Prep has 10 players committed to Division I colleges. They include seniors Jack Morganthaler (LSM, Navy), TJ Hanzsche (attackman, Navy), Keith Dreyer (Air Force, midfielder), Drew Kennedy (Johns Hopkins, face-off specialist), Vince Travaglini (Massachusetts, midfielder) and Mike Dougherty (St. Joseph’s, attackman) and juniors Russ Atkinson (midfielder, Navy), Kevin Samolsky (defenseman, Navy), Eddie Morris (defenseman, Johns Hopkins), Jack Sheridan (defenseman, Notre Dame).
