Men’s recruit: Haverford High senior midfielder Leyden commits to Cabrini

Recent Haverford High graduate Mike Leyden (midfielder) has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Cabrini College.

Haverford High's Mike Leyden will play at Cabrini

Leyden scored 44 goals and earned First Team Central League honors in helping the Fords reach the District 1 tournament. Leyden was selected to play in the All American National Lacrosse Classic and the EPSLA Showcase in 2010 and was named the league’s George Kruse winner.

Leyden, who played club lacrosse Team Philadelphia (Delco), plans to major in accounting at Cabrini.

Cabrini won its 11th straight Colonial States Athletic Conference championship in 2011, finishing 13-6 reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament under coach Steve Colfer.

Leyden joins a number of Philly recruits headed to Cabrini, including Avon Grove’s Damian Sobieski (attackman) and Anthony DiNenno (face-off specialist), Abington defenseman Anthony Greco, Ridley midfielder Eric Streicher and Downingtown West midfielder Zach Logan.

“I chose Cabrini because the coach (showed a lot of interest) I wanted to play college lacrosse,” he said. “Also the campus was not too far from home and they had my intended major.”

Leyden was pleased that the Fords (8-11 in 2011) were one of the most improved teams.

“This year I thought was a great year and a big step up from years past because we made the playoffs and beat some teams that we have lost to in the past,” he said.
