Men’s recruit: Downingtown West senior midfielder Logan commits to Cabrini

Recent Downingtown West graduate  Zach Logan (midfielder) has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Cabrini College.

Downingtown West senior midfielder Zach Logan will play at Cabrini College

Logan was a First Team Ches-Mont League selection this year when he scored 32 goals and helped the Whippets (20-3) win their second straight league crown and first-ever outright title.

Logan, who played club lacrosse for Black Bear, also played on the adidas All-American National Lacrosse Classic last summer.

He plans to study Business at Cabrini, which won its 11th straight Colonial States Athletic Conference championship this year under coach Steve Colfer.

“I really liked the campus and coach Colfer seemed like a down to earth guy,” Logan said. “Also, they have a good business program.”

Logan joins several other Philly seniors as Cabrini recruits: Haverford High attackman Mike Leyden, Abington LSM Anthony Greco, Avon Grove face-off specialist Anthony DiNenno and Avon Grove attackman Damian Sobieski.

Logan had fond memories of his career at Downingtown West. He did not play the sport until his sophomore year, but quickly emerged as a go-to player and credited the Whippets coaching staff, led by head coach Tommy Hannum, for his progress.

This year he served as a captain in helping Downingtown West reach the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs and the District 1 semifinals for the first time while earning a national ranking for many weeks.

“I really thought we had a great season,” he said. “The whole team connected and there were no selfish players. Everyone gave 100 percent and I am pretty sure they will do great next year and for more years to come.

“Coach (Hannum) always pushed us in practice. He helped me a lot when I was new to the game. I had tried lacrosse in sixth grade and for some reason I didn’t like it. A few buddies got me to try it sophomore year and I liked it because of the coaching staff.”
