Downingtown West senior midfielder Zach Barr signed a National Letter of Intent Saturday night to play Division I lacrosse at Marquette University.

The signing came on the same day that Barr won the fastest 40-yard dash time at the F-4 Showbine. He clocked a 4.64 in his first day playing lacrosse after a brilliant season on the football field for the Whippets.
Barr rushed for 1,450 yard and 15 touchdowns, helping the Whippets finish a solid 7-3. Downingtown West barely missed a playoff spot, so Barr came out Saturday to compete with his normal high school teammates in the recruiting tournament at Flemington, N.J.
“I just came off the football season and I wanted to get a stick back into my hands and start working on stuff and get out there with my team,” Barr said. “We played well and won all three of our games.
“My time in the 40 was actually not that good for me. I was surprised that it won.”
Zach Barr log:

Position: midfielder
Club affiliation: HEADstrong
College choice: Marquette
Major lacrosse honors: Ches-Mont League Second Team pick for league champions and district semifinalist, 2011

Why did you choose Marquette? “It’s a new program and I went out and visited and loved what they had to offer. They have a brand new engineering building and I loved the team. Coach (Joe) Amplo saw me play at two tournaments and came to visit me. I plan to be competitive the first
year out there.”
Expectations for 2012 HS season:“We are hoping to go even further this year. We have been looking forward to playing as seniors for so long.”
Additional comments: “Obviously, I want to thank my parents for pushing me to be a better lacrosse player. I have to thank (Downingtown West) Coach (Tommy) Hannum and all the people at HEADstrong, and coach (Michael) Colleluori.”
