Central Bucks East rising senior attackman Chris Vetter has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Towson University.
Vetter helped lead the Patriots to the Suburban One Continental Conference championship, a berth in the District 1 finals and a spot in the state semifinals this year. He collected 36 goals and 17 assists and earned First Team Suburban One honors.
Vetter also made the Adidas All-American team and will compete with Team Philly July 5-8 at Germantown, Md. He also scored two goals recently in the EPSLA Showcase, and made the All-Star game at the Baltimore Kick-Off Tournament.
He plays club lacrosse for Twist.
Vetter plans to major in business and marketing, and said academics was a major factor in his decision.
“It fit perfectly,” said Vetter. “It has a great lacrosse program, a great history, the size is great, and the (new) coaching staff is going to be unbelievable, too.”
Top assistant Shawn Nadelen was recently elevated to the Tigers’ head coach post.
Vetter also likes the Towson area.
“I’ve been around Maryland a lot,” said Vetter. “I’ve played lacrosse tournaments there. I love just being around the people, the environment, and the weather, I love everything about it.”
Vetter is following CB East graduate Matt Hughes, a rising junior who led the Tigers in scoring this year with 18 goals. Hughes will be a senior when Vetter attends Towson as a freshman, and helped Vetter make his decision.
“He talked to me about Towson and how much he liked it,” said Vetter of Hughes. “I took his advice, took how much he liked it into effect, and he was a big contributor in me going to Towson.”
Vetter’s Patriots finished as the No. 3 PIAA team in the state in the final PA Media Rankings. It was their third straight state tourney appearance, but the first tim they got past the first round.
“It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a team,” Vetter said. “It was a great, very talented group of guys, and we were also very close. It’s really sad seeing everyone go off to college, but our season was very fun, very memorable, and we’re going to miss each other a lot.
Vetter hopes to keep the run going in 2012.
“We made a name for ourselves for CB East in the lacrosse community, and everyone knows we’re going to be a top contender now,” he said. “Next year we want to uphold that reputation and push even farther.”
